CPA Continuing Education Services
THE STATE OF New York mandates that all licensed Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) engaged in the practice of public accountancy in New York State are required to meet ongoing annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements.
The CPE program is overseen by the Board of Regents and the New York State Education Department and regulated by the Office of the Professions. Guided by the Regents, a citizen body, the professions are within The University of the State of New York. This recognizes the key role continuing education plays in both preparing licensed professionals and in ensuring their continuous development.
In order to be eligible for CPE credit, regardless of the subject area, a course must contribute to the development or maintenance of professional knowledge and provided by an authorized State of New York CPE Educator. To insure that the purposes of the continuing education law and regulations are met, CPE programs devoted to the promotion of particular products or services are deemed unacceptable and are not permitted.
Qualification Requirements for an Authorized State of New York Continuing Professional Educator
As the objective of the educator is to present studies that will broaden, expand and/or increase the CPA’s knowledge or skills within the approved subject areas, educators are expected to have attained a level of professional knowledge and possess certain skills.
Instructors or discussion leaders must be one or more of the following requirements:
- Certified public accountants licensed in the United States
- Public accountants licensed in New York
- Members of the faculty of an accredited college or university
- Recognized authorities in the specific subject area being presented
